Is anyone up for some jamming over a blues/soul backer?

It's very Green-Onions like. There are 12 sections in the backer, although only 10 can be soloed on because of existing organ solos.

    1st 0'00-0'30
    2nd 0'31-0'54
    3rd 0'54-1'20
    4th 1'20-1'47 not available - organ solo
    5th 1'47-2'14
    6th 2'15-2'38
    7th 2'39-3'03
    8th 3'03-3'29
    9th 3'30-3'55
    10th 3'55-4'20
    11th 4'20-4'46
12th 4'47-5'30 (end) not available - organ solo

To start with let's see who is interested? We could perhaps take 2 sections each as they are fairly short.

Great that's 3 players (including me), and we need about 5 players. Maybe in a day or two we might get enough players.

In the meantime, I'd like to just discuss the approach. I have seen these jams done two different ways:

    1. Series. Each player grabs it in order, adds their solo to the mix, send it on to the next person. This way the last player has a version with everyone else's solos already in, and when they have finished it is done.
    2. Parallel. Each player does their solo independently and sends their solo as a separation back to me (with the opening 4 hi-hat hits mixed in so I can line it up), and then I mix it all together. This way nobody hears anyone else's solos until the final mix is done, and folk can go off and work on their sections at the same time.

Thoughts? I prefer approach 2 as the final product is more of a surprise to all involved, and also better audio quality (less repeated re-rendering), but I'd like to see what y'all think?

I would like to join in as well guys. just let me know the sections. I like the Idea of keeping it blind until the final mix too.

I agree, I would prefer option 2 also.:D The turnaround is quicker and as you say everybody hears the final product only when it is complete.

Four players signed up so far: me, tweekerpated, stereophony, LVO57.

I'll wait until tomorrow for latecomers and then assign sections :)

Justin thanks, I'll put you down for a slice....

    So the roster is complete:

    1st 0'00-0'30 tweekerpated
    2nd 0'31-0'54 tweekerpated
    3rd 0'54-1'20 napoleonboot (me)
    4th 1'20-1'47 not available - organ solo
    5th 1'47-2'14 napoleonboot (me)
    6th 2'15-2'38 stereophony
    7th 2'39-3'03 stereophony
    8th 3'03-3'29 LVO57
    9th 3'30-3'55 LVO57
    10th 3'55-4'20 axe2grind
    11th 4'20-4'46 axe2grind
12th 4'47-5'30 (end) not available - organ solo

We'll adopt approach '2' - parallel, so just go at it! :awesome:

When you send me seps please:
    * ensure you have the intro clicks mixed in, but no other backing
    * if you start your section particularly early or finish it very late I may have to fade you!
    * seps should be stereo at 44.1kHZ, and a bit rate and depth which represents good quality, and aren't clipped to death so quiet I have to zoom in with a microscope.
    * Pretty much any standard audio format ever invented, except midi, is fine for me (please don't take that as a challenge).
    * I will assume your seps are fully effected unless you tell me you want me to add echo, reverb or anything, which I am happy to do.
    * If you want to also send me your own mix to help me hear the context that is cool.
    * I prefer you send files using dropbox and send me links in a PM here, or in an email (guitargeorge@inbox.com)

I may resort to tweaking seps regarding EQ, reverb etc, in other minor ways if it benefits the final mix.

Thanks Andy - I got it fine. I also have finished parts from Axe2grind (Justin) and Tweekerplater (Rob). I'm still working on mine.
